All -

I don't know about you, but I would like to meet more folks from this forum while on the water, but that has not always been so easy. An idea to facilitate that would be to develop a number of "Flyaddict flags" that people wear while on the water. When another site member sees one of those "flags", he approaches that person and gets to meet, talk, etc. Once this interaction is over, the "flag" is transfered to the new person and the cycle repeats.

I know a lot of us might be in different clubs or organizatons and meet people that way, but this might be another way to do that and would add to the fun of on the water.

As far as what the "flags" would be, that could be anything from a bandana, hat, t-shirt, or some other easily recognizable (hi vis) item. Maybe Flyaddict could have a few neon lime colored Flyaddict hats made up for this purpose.

Any interest?

The hat orders are well underway. I hope this may help.

The hat thing seems like a good idea. I'm so set in my ways that I'll probably still wear my LL Bean hat, but I'll keep a Flyaddict hat in the Jeep so you'll know I'm around somewhere.

That's what I was thinking...Although I do plan to purchase 2 of the great looking flyaddict hats, I definitely have a few other fishing caps & my favorite brimmed columbia field hat and will probably not wear the flyaddict hat as much on the water as I do my other hats, simply because, like Fisherman said, I'm set in my ways also......Flyaddict, how about getting us some patches for our vests? The vest is always w/ you.....

Is beginning to sound like a street gang staking out our turf...wearing our colors...the Crips and the Bloods and the Flyaddicts. Let's see those bandits try to fight off a gang armed to the teeth with barbless hooks!!!

I'd put a patch on the vest for sure.

btw, I'd want a blue cap...I can see it on my Jeep's dash right now.

Hello
The idea of wearing a flag or orange hat with insignia seems strange to me.
Next thing someone will suggest a secret hand shake or more.
We allready have an assigned rank that suggest inequallity depending on how many post we make.
Hats are cool so are patches for those that are into that kind of thing.
Maybe a simple lapel pin so that fellow Fly Addicts can recognize ea other
if they happen to run into one another on the stream.
I tell you if I am in the stream on to and working a fish and someone with a orange hat comes up to me saying hello and messes up my game I will not be a nice guy.
I have patches on my vest but have never had a fellow angler approach me and say oh we are both members of such and such.
When I go fishing thats my recreation I want to be left to enjoy my fishing.
If I make arrangements to meet someone on the stream or I meet someone in passing that another thing.
Flaggs and Orange hats no thanks not for me.
This is just my take on this and not intended to insult anyone.

I kind of agree with Andrew Manchester's post (not the inequality part). Many times people have struck up a conversation with me while I am fishing - as they inch closer - and despite my trying to ignore them - cause I am there to fish - they just keep on talking, and talking. Meanwhile, while trying not to be a snob or rude, I miss a take, my cast gets messed up, I snag bottom etc. :?
I fish mostly to be by myself, alone, in the quiet. I have no problem with gabbing on-shore, in the parking lot, etc.
Also, I would never wear an orange hat on the water. Maybe some small, unobtrusive pin. 8)

For those of you coming into the hat game a little late, the orange is not blaze-don't-shoot-me-I'm-not-a-bird-orange, but a burnt, washed out orange.

And I understand completely anyone who wants to be left alone. We must all respect everyone's S.Q. (Solitude Quotient). :D

For clarity, the suggestion was meant to be fun and promote socialability between folks with something in common, not to have a fellow member crash your honey hole in the midst of working you favorite fly over fresh-water Moby. Heck - I'd just like to know who I am running into in the parking lot at Church once in a while if nothing else.

Introverts need not participate...

Hello

FYI

Introverts draw their energy from themselves, while extroverts are motivated to action by being with others. The assumption that introverts are shy and socially awkward is incorrect; introverts can be and often are confident and assertive.

Most people who know me are amazed when I tell them I test strongly as an introvert on the Meyers-Briggs scale.

That's the curse of having a loud voice.

Any stranger who is close enough to me to notice a small, unobtrusive pin is going to get a secret handshake and a face full of pepper spray!! LOL

Obviously, a joke.

I you want to meet some people - Just post when and where you will be a vehicle description and hat color. If members so choose to meet up, cool!!
New fishing friend is made - If not, Oh well! Fish on!!

This thread was about the idea of being able to recognize members. It it is okay to have your opions about the hats, patches, whatever.....Simple, don't wear the hat's, patches, flags, whatever. If you want to meet members do so.

I will look into the idea of patches.

Well put,
If you are going to be on the water one day and would like to meet a member with whom you converse. Send them and IM and make arrangements to meet before or after your outing at a parking lot on stream...or at a local coffee shop over a cup of java.....For some people their time on the water is limited and is used as a retreat, respect that and their space...
