Have to love a Pheasant Tail

I ran over to Stratton Brook in Simsbury at about 4:30 just to wet a line. Put on my trusty Pheasant tail and started casting. I was doing the no wake slow retrieve and just started catching fish one after another. I almost became embarrassed when everyone with regular rods started starring at me as they had been standing there with no bites. It felt great also. Im the king of the world! After 7 fish in 25 minutes it stopped. The clouds rolled in and the temp dropped. The fish had just turned off like a light. Back to reality.... Newly stocked fish can be so much fun, so easy.

My favorite as well. I'm a real novice to tying having taken a class this winter from Don Butler @ Upcountry. Tied my first PT last night. Not the easiest fly to tie but it came out OK.

Just about the only thing better that catching fish is catching fish when no one else around you is. ( Bonus points are awarded if they are fishing with bait) Pheasant tails are like magic to me too...with and without bead heads. Is 3 wt around??? We gotta hook up this week end...Maybe should Roger a call too..

Pheasant Tails are far and away my favorite nymph.... bead heads, flashbacks, they're the best.

Other patterns that have worked well for me are GRHE, Prince, big stonefly imitations, Lepage Bead Head Mayfly nymphs in brown or olive, and Copper Johns.... I've never seemed to do very much with caddis pupa or larva imitations, maybe a few on green glass beads, and the first fish I caught this year was on a plain green bead head hares ear...

I'm off Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday..... at this point I'm off Saturday too, but I'm trying to swap shifts and work Saturday so I can get next Wednesday off.... I may go to New York Monday and Tuesday...
