Any advice on high end pliers? I am talking about Abel, Orvis, Ross, Van Staal, etc.
I am somewhat interested in getting a pair, but if I am going to put out $150, I want to make sure I am happy with the quality.

I'm a guy who loves gear so please don't take this the wrong way..

$150 pliers? I don't get it

Ive fished for years and never needed anything more than dollar store needle nose pliers. and even if i ruin 1 a year which I don't I still wouldnt spend the same amount in a lifetime.

Again I'm a gear guy and if someone can come up with a good argument I might just go buy $150 pliers someday too.

As an example a friend bought a surefire flashlight at a show. I thought who needs a $100 flashlight? But let me just tell you those things are awesome. makes a mag light look like a birthday candle!

I've seen a bunch of those Abel pliers on ebay....You may be "able" (No pun intended...) to get a descent deal there.....Otherwise, if you happen to snap out of it and find better use for your money, I have just one word for you....HEMOSTATS!!!!! For trout fishing, I"ve never needed more than a $5 pair of hemos...They're stainless, so they last as long as you don't lose them......And because they're very thin, they're much easier to maneuver when the fish takes the fly in the back of the mouth.....Fort that kinda scratch, those pliers better jump off my vest and net the fish for me.....

maybe i should have clarified first that i would be using them for saltwater.
dr slicks work fine for trout and such.
i like the idea of spring loaded pliers that can handle being submerged in saltwater. plus i happen to like high end equipment that lasts forever. a few years ago i wouldn't have dreamed of getting them, but now i am running out of things to need and unless i take up a new hobby, i will continue to "collect" fly fishing gear.

If you're going to do it big with the pliers, I'd recommend fishpond. They make the most amazing products imo. A little pricy but if you're going to spend it amazinig. I think they're called the barracuda pliers, I dont have a pair but have heard good things.

Ah I see....Saltwater....Yup..I guess you're right.....I woldn't try to use my 6" hemos on a bluefish unless I was wearing a chain link glove...LOL.....Striper no problem......Like Chris said.....Buy a dollar store pair & get new ones every year.....You can probably go to Home Depot or Lowes & find something quite useful in stainless that'll last you a lifetime for a fraction of the cost.....I say you at least look there before spending the big bucks......Although, we all have our weakness.....If you've got everything you need in life and are just itching to spend big bucks on a pair of pliers, who am I to tell you not to? ebay my friend......ebay.....I saw lots of listings for the Abel pliers there.....

I have owned and use in the salt,,,,,Abel, O***s and Van Staal.

The best investment is the Van Staal titanium pliers. Buy the most durable once and they will last forever,,,,,,if you ever wish to sell them off,,,,they will bring the greatest percentage price.

put a period in between each letter and we will figure it out. It is probably on the censored list.
