As I was stumbling around the Farmington yesterday it dawned on me that I have never fallin in in my lifetime of fishing....And that I had my car keys in my vest pocket....the kind that has the computer chip in it that comes with all kinds of warnings (don't drop on hard surface, don't get wet, don't look at it with attitude ) or it will not start the car. Panic arose as I tippi-toed out of the river and realized I need a dry place for my keys. Some of us have secret spots on our cars to hide our keys but I'm curious as to what others do & wonder how many realize they have these types of keys ? Gordy I think water proof pouches would be a big seller in your store.

Don't have the key issue yet, older truck with a "normal" metal key to unlock the doors and start it. I have stashed a cell phone in a zip lock and gone under, cell phone stayed dry.
Will the door unlock with a regular metal key? If so, carry that and lock the digital key inside.
Water is not the damaging component to electronic circuit boards, it's the other "stuff" in it that causes the short, i.e. sugar, dirt particles etc.
Pour your keyboard a cup of black coffee, rinse and dry it will mostlikely continue to work, pour it a cup of coffee with cream and sugar and it's dead. Coke vs diet coke same thing - the sugar does it.

Another side note, if your car "electronics" start to freak out, like when you hit the button on the remote to lock unlock, when you are driving, take the remote off the key chain and away from the car, chances are the battey in it is going dead. Spent a whole lot of $$ at the Nissan dealer diagnosing this issue with the wifes minivan.

My orvis pack/vest has a small water tight compartment to hide keys in.

I do a lot of sea kayaking and use small sealline bags for my cell phone and vhf. Draypak makes some as well. Some bags have d-ring clips so your valuables don't go floating gently down the stream. Pelican cases are great too. I use them for yakin and diving and it's a great case for my digital camera.

I keep a sandwich size ziplock bag in my wader pocket. Thats where I keep my keys.

I still have the regular key to start my truck but I do have a key fob that locks and unlocks my doors. I hadn't thought going under and then it not working. I guess I need a place to hide them now.

I have a waterproof 'clamshell' box that fits right down in the top of my waders. It is just big enough for my liscence, camera, keys, phone, and a second cigar....the first already being in my mouth

Ziploc bags are best in a pinch.....There are all sorts of products made for keeping valuables dry, but you can never go wrong if you carry a few empty ziploc bags in your glove compartment.....For the cost of an Orvis Vest, I can buy 2 Columbia vests & a lifetime supply of ziploc bags....

Sure, Ziploc bags, now why didn't I think of that. :)

I like Redwings1 second cigar idea, too. It doesn't get much better than enjoying a nice cigar after a successful day of fishing! :D
