It's Didymo Algae, most commonly known as "Rock Snot"
Read the articles, it's bad stuff.
Please, if you fish areas with it, take all the precautions on cleaning your gear; Lines, waders, boots, flies.

This could be very bad news for Vermont (at least).

Please help to do your part to stop the spreading of this highly invasive algae that has already gained a foothold in the Connecticut River and highly suspect in the White River of Vermont.
This algae has the potential to completely destroy trout fisheries and has already taken its toll on rivers in New Zealand, other parts of the U.S. , and now in New England!

Please go to the following link and do whatever it takes to be sure that Didymo doesn't spread into your home rivers...

Fly shop owners: Please print and post the following bulletin in your shop in plain view for your customers to see...

This is a problem not to be taken lightly so please do what you can to keep this algae spread from getting much much worse!
Once Didymo is established in a river, there is no chance for complete eradication. We can only hope to keep it from spreading.

Thanks!
