:? With the weather forecast looking alittle damp for the next few days I would expect everybody to be busy tying up some flies. Since my stock is so low I have alot to do. Anyone else plan on tying under gray skies ??

Between the household chores that I have been neglecting :? , I hope to have the opportunity tie a few. Most of the tying will occur while watching whatever sports are on at that moment.

I have been having a lot of success on a fairly detailed fly I tie that calls for individual sets of legs, eyes and color marking. These flies take some time to complete and this weekend may be my be opportunity for a while to build up my stock.

I don't tie much, but between twirling furled leaders and planing cane I'm busy with fishing activities.

I tie flies in the winter only. I fill my boxes and then I'm rwady for the next season.

I'm a lousy tier, but I'm going to do a few stonefly nymphs this weekend and try to get to the Willimantic on Monday if the rain holds off to give them a try. I figure if the water is high a larger nymph might work. I'm using trimmed hen feathers for wing cases on a couple, and raffia for a couple.

Anybody have a favorite material for stonefly wing cases?
Anybody out there use wing burners?
Anyone ever try tying or fishing Leiser & Boyles mysterious White Nymph?

My favorite stonefly wing cases are made from turkey wing feathers treated on the back with Flexament. I used to use burners but for speed and perfect consistency sake, both a must for commercial tying, I switched over to wing cutters from River Road Creations. I used some birthday money last year and picked up a set each for stonefly wings, caddis wings, mayfly wings, and hopper bodies. They are a bit pricey but worth every penny in my opinion.

Nice ties, Redwings. Very buggy. I like those mini-buggers.

What material do you use for that z-egg pattern?. Looks like a killer to me.

I asked about the burners because I saw a set on sale and wondered if they worked. I don't need to be speedy because I'm not tying commercially.
