For Everyone who can't fish their favorite river or stream right now because running water is in spate:

Still Waters Hold Fish, and yes. You can fish from shore.

Trout are lovely fish.
There are also other lovely fish.
All of them can be fooled.

Is there a lake or pond near you?

There may be trout there, or other fish..........
Smallmouth Bass? Oh, a worthy adversary indeed!

Anyway, consider still water fishing, even as the rain falls.

A well placed damselfy nymph (that means you chuck it out into the water) played skillfully (you let it sink before you yuck it back in) might produce (a stupid fish hit it, but you didn't hook up) some suprising results (a trout actually tried to eat your fly, and you were lucky enough to snag it).

(What? Oh, get over "snag")!

The point is, when your river is too high, consider a lake or pond.Rain has a less dramatic effect on this water. Even from shore, flyfishers can entice fish.
