I'm planning to do some saltwater fishing this summer and had my eye on a TFO Lefty Krey combo from cabelas to start. I was thinking about a 9 wt. for stripers and blues. Would this be a good saltwater entry choice? What type of line would be sufficient, intermediate is what I had planned on for all around apllications. Any suggestestions would be appreciated.

A 9wt is a good start. I use an 10ft 8wt for fishing from the surf. Site fishing Stripers can be a blast. A clear intermediate is good for site fishing in the surf.I would also have a full sink line if you plan on fishing from a boat.

Thanx flyaddict I plan on wading in the surf so I think I'll stick with the intermediate.

Can be fun and a challenge chasing shadows.

9wt definitely is the way to go.

I have a entry level 9' 5 wt TFO and I like it. I've heard mostly all good things from anyone who has a TFO, particularly the Lefty Kreh models.

Can't go wrong with a clear intermediate line. I second the full sink for boat fishing. I use a multi tip line from Orivs; 85 foot line with 4 different 15 ft tips, a floater, a clear intermediate, a fast sink, and an extra fast sink. I wanted to cover my bases, and have friends and family with boats. My next line will be a full clear intermediate, after that a full sink line with a very fast sink rate, maybe a shooting head, 300 or 350 grains.

I think you're on the right track..... best of luck....

TFO makes solid inexpensive rods. I have a 9' 10wt TiCr for the surf. I got it used. They're reels are nicely matched and not as expensive as some other seeled salt reels. I bought and Albright GTX 9/10 and it's a good balance fairly light weight combo. I've heard Okuma makes very nice reels for the salt. I have 3 Okuma surf reels and they've held up great. With anything, as long as you take care of it, it should last a long time.
