I've seen more than a few posts from guys/girls who like to throw streamers for big trout.

So I decided I would organize a Streamer Swap (any input from flygirl regarding organization would be welcome)

RULES:
Flies tied will be at the discretion of the host.

Tie 12 flies, Toe tag each fly at the bend of the hook with members name on it, and mail them to the host (will PM address once you're in).

Flies will be mailed in an Altiod tin box (mine wont fit in an Altoids box, but be reasonable) I imagine you could put your flies in a heavy ziploc bag, inside a 6x9 padded envelope (self-addressed, unsealed, and stamped, about 1.50) then mail to Host.

Box will be sent to Host along with a self stamped addressed envelope
(put a stamped 6"x9" envelope inside a 8.5"x11" stamped envelope..
cost is abot $3)

Flies should be mailed to the host before the deadline date - Duh.

So I need up to 12 tyers for a big-trout streamer. Due Feb 28th, 2008.

Lets see your woolhead sculpins, dirt darts , zoo cougars ...

1. SloNDeep - Brellow Palonker - received
2. Flyone73 - String Leeches - received
3. headhunter - trout fin bucktail - received
4. flygirl - Woolhead Sculpin - received
5. WhiteNosePete - dirt dart variation
6. FK - - received
7. flyaddict - Yellow NutCrackers - received
8. Teton Trout - Halibut Jig - received

Slo, count me in. I will tie what Mike calls the "Halibut Jig".

You may want to wear a helmet when casting it.

Yeah, watch out for that thing, Klubek wears his superdave helmet when he chucks that thing. You know how Klubey got the name "The Hook" right? Last spring he buried a size 2 zoo cougar in my neck while floating the through the park. Then to make things worse he was yanking on the thing in my neck like herron trying to pluck a fish from a mergansers mouth.

12 Yellow NutCrackers done.

I first found this fly at Orvis. But I just found instructions here (http://www.hawkinsflyfishing.com/Nutcracker.php).

My flys are done, pls PM your mailing address, I will send out tomorrow via USPS Priority Mail.

I had to change my fly, completed the bodies and rabbit wings, next step, glue together the upper/lower strips,,,,the Tear Mender I was planning to use on the Double Bunnies was rock hard (two bottles).

I changed to a Estaz/Bunny streamer instead, this has been a favorite producer for trout and smallmouth.

FK

O.K....Mine are done & will be in the mail Mon......I hope everyone will be kind, as it is not my best tie.....so if you don't like the way it looks, cut off the hook & use it as a cat toy.

I am going to have to withdraw from the streamer swap. I have been sick for a couple weeks, and taking 6 classes plus an internship is taking its toll on me. I am sorry that I will not be able to participate in this swap, and hope no one has been excluded because of me. Again my apologies.

I had the same thing happen last year,,,,UPS dropped off a package in a snow storm,,,,right in front of the garage,,,,, in the morning I acutally drove over the box and squashed the contents. I have a two car garage with a separate walk in door in between the car doors,,,,where did they leave the package ??

Recieved my flies yesterday, thanks to all that tied. Hope you have more than 3wt to cast the one I tied.

Flyaddict - very nice fly, that will slay some big fish. You will probably have good success on the Housatonic with it. One suggestion though, and I don't know if you have ran in to this problem before, but I think you should tie it on larger gapped hook. Criticism out of the way, is that mallard, wood duck or gadwall that you used in the collar? Great job on the deer hair.

Todd K
03-22-2008, 07:19 PM
It is Mallard that I used. Good point on the hooks(no pun intended). Sometimes I don't take that into consideration until late. That was my first time tying that fly. Deer hair is another story.

Great fly by the way Teton. I was studying it today. Lots going on and I love the Clouser style. Is the under body green flash stuff strung? Almost like an Estaz? Name of material?

It is Enricos Sparkle Brush. I have made dubbing loops in the past, but this stuff makes it much easier to tie, plus it adds a little weight. Not like the fly needs it, with the dumbell eyes and all the lead in it.
