This is my variation of Fran Betters Ausable Bomber.

You can use a variety of hook sizes and types, I use Mustad, 94840, and 38941. Sizes 12 and 14

Other materials, Hot Orange thread 6/0, woodchuck, Australian possum dubbing, rust orange, white calf tail, and grizzly and brown hackle.

Its a simple pattern to tie, and very effictive, good floater, and easy to pick up on the water.

Materials as shown.

Tie in a bunch of woodchuck hair for the tail and wrap thread foward.

Select a lenght of calftail and straighten using a hair stacker, place on hook just behind hook eye and tie down. Then tie a few wraps in front of the calftail to stand up, take a wrap or two behind wing, trim calf tail and wrap to back of fly.

Tie in your hackle, grizzly, then brown.

Next dub about an inch of possum, and wrap foward to front of wing. Wrap your hackle foward to front of wing and tie off and clip.

Trim away any excess hackle, and the fly is complete.

This is a wonderful addition to the site. Tiers, fresh and salt, let's see some more of this type of post with your favorite flies!

Thanks a ton for the demo and photos. Do you mind if I add this content to the main site tying library?

How is the macro zoom on your camera?

I have no idea what you are talking about in regards to a macro zoom.

I have a point and click kodak digital camera...press button takes a picture...press another button and it zooms in. cost me a whopping 10 bucks on ebay so if it falls to the bottom of the river I can't complain.

headhunter, I wish I could help, but I'm digicam illiterate. I can tell you the name of the camera, Nikon Coolpix 4600. As far as macro I think its built into the camera.

I have a digital camera that has a flower button. Basically that means you can take close ups.

What is the camera maker and model. We can look it up on the web.
