I think it might be time that I retire my old, stinking fishing hat. I was thinking perhaps I'd kill two birds with one stone, and join a new conservation organization (new as in one I'm not already a member of), preferably one that will send me a hat, or at least sell me one.

I haven't looked into the hats yet, but I was briefly browsing a few webpages. Anybody have any positive or negative things to say about the following organizations that might sway my decision one way or the other? Thanks for any comments you might have!

Here's what I'm considering so far (other suggestions welcome):

Coastal Conservation Association
Water Keeper Alliance, or an affiliate, such as
Soundkeeper, Riverkeeper, or Baykeeper

Oh yeah, I had forgotten to mention that I was considering Stripers Forever.

And the flyaddict hats are nice too!


What I'm really looking for here are comments on the merits of these conservation organizations with respect to fishing related issues. A hat would be a nice bonus!

I can't claim that I know much about CCA
It seems to me that they focus more on the gulf coast then they do on the northeast
I know the Maine and NH chapters are active, but I not too sure about those in CT, Mass and RI
Ed Mitchell was once the Ct Chapter chairman and I remember that he resigned rather abruptly. I don't remember why... if I ever knew at all.

Stripers Forever is a one issue group. Making striped bass a game fish.
It's easy to belong, other than a letter or an e-mail once in a while they don't ask much more other than being able to count you as being on their side.
I think it's an issue worth supporting. (and it doesn't cost me anything :rolleyes: )
I'm afraid I don't know anything about the other groups you mentioned
