i am not sure what happened to the post, but maybe 6 or 7 months ago there was a discussion about gierach and his book "fishing bamboo."
this was the only book by gierach that i did not own and since i knew nothing about bamboo, it was not high on my priority list of things to read. i do recall someone mentioning that it was a good read so when i pre-ordered john's next book which is due out in a few weeks, i decided to order "fishing bamboo" as well.
the book is a very quick read and i am about half through already and expect to wrap it up this week.
i will probably read it again over the summer because there seem to be too many distractions at the homefront these days and i don't want to do myself a disservice by not fully understanding what i am reading.
so last night i found myself poking around online looking at the website of some of the more famous bamboo rod makers. i don't log nearly as many hours on trout rivers as a used to so i am not sure if i could justify dropping that kind of dough on a new stick. i saw prices anywhere for $2,000-$3,750. i also saw leadtimes anywhere from 6 months to years. gierach always references his friend mike clark in his writings. his leadtime is 4-5 years! he has a pretty cool website that has a couple of pics of john hanging out in his shop.
