Just finished reading my Father's day gift - John Gierach's latest book - "Fools Paradise." Another good book by a terrific fishing writer. Gierach's stories and commentary really reach the heart and soul of a true fly angler.

It's a lovely read, I agree. Though I'm not sure whether, having read them all (twice!), I can say that this is better or worse that earlier offerings. They kind of blend into one. I will say that I felt his earlier work was more explictly laugh-out-loud, where as FP is a bit more reserved and left me back tracking to see if I'd missed the joke. He's still a great, great 'angling' writer (of course he covers so much more), but I wonder if there's another to come in this ilk, or whether we'd like to see him get into more specifics (his Bamboo and Good Flies books were excellent, afterall). Frankly, he deserves to write what ever he choses (and surely will!) I'll be in line when he does.

Perhaps I'm just green that I've read them all - I certainly envy those who haven't, yet.

I've read most, a couple several times.

I was talking to Kathy at South Creek earlier today, John was in the shop signing more books, that's how I know it's in the third printing. I could hear John and Mike Clark talking in the background about fishing some creek later today!

Great stuff. Now what would it be like to fish with these guys! I'd need to find a bamboo pole for a start...

I talked with Mike when you tipped me off to get in touch with him for a signed first Ed. copy. Real nice fella and most humble. Man would I like one of his rods. He said JG could get grouchy signing books all day, so they just kept filling him with decent coffee!
