For tying, videos are a great aid. Use YouTube. There are hundreds of lessons from beginner to expert. Many many patterns can be found. The Catching-Shadows website also has some very good videos on how to tie effective mayfly and caddis nymph patterns (And he's a FlyAddict). Books are a great tool, especially when you can borrow them for free, but seeing it done eliminates a lot of trial and error.

Whipfish, I've also enjoyed the video podcasts "Adventures in Fly Tying with Fly Fish Ohio". Their tutorials are nicely done. The website is http://www.flyfishohio.com/ or you can access it through iTunes.

This was suppose to be a response to one of ahab's posts. Don't know why it's an individual thread. Either way...everyone should list at least one of their favorite pattern sites. It could be a good reference so beginners don't have to google and google and google.....
