The Connecticut Fly Fisherman’s Association will present a fly fishing program on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the E. Hartford Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford. Please note the change of location for the October meeting only. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.

Bob Rifchin started his career as a writer in the early 70’s as a columnist for New England Out-of-Doors, and shortly thereafter took over the Editors chair for The United Fly Tyer’s Roundtable Magazine, then the only US publication devoted to fly tying. Since that time he has been published in many publications including On The Water, Trout and Salmon (UK), Massachusetts Wildlife, American Angler, Fly Fisherman, Fly Fishing Saltwater, Fly Fishing in Salt Waters, and has been the Northeast Regional Editor for Fly Fish America since the publications beginnings. He is also an active member of the New England Outdoor Writer’s Association, has served as their treasurer, and is currently a member of their Board of Directors.

The program for October 8th will take you first to part of Maine that was once avoided as a polluted piece of water with unpleasant smelling air, The river has been reborn as one of the premier smallmouth destinations in the Northeast and perhaps the nation. Then we travel north well into Western Maine to visit with a relatively new immigrant, the Musky. These voracious fish have taken a watershed as their own and are plentiful. Lastly, but hardly least, Jake Jakespeare will share some new things in the fly fishing world, perhaps dispel a few myths, and answer a question or two.

Admission to the CFFA monthly meetings is always free. Meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month and you don’t have to be a member to attend.

Prior to the meeting some of the CFFA’s best fly tiers will be tying some of their favorite patterns. For more information and directions to the meeting call 860-747-3324 or visit the CFFA website at www.ctflyfish.org
