Dave,

Ross Reels are excellent. Solidly built, great drag systems. While I can't speak for the (imported) Flywater, I have a Cimarron 2 (trout reel)and a Gunnison 3 (salmon and steelhead)that I have had for a number of years. Neither reel has given me even the slightest problem.

I also had (and just sold) one of their evolution reels, not because there was anything wrong with it, but just because I never used it. I found a disc drag and large arbor unneccesary for a 3 weight, so I just kept using my old CFO.

If you're patient, you can get a Cimarron for less than $100 on eBay.

I have 2 Ross Rythyms, which were the replacement for the Gunnison models, and they are GREAT reels...GO FOR IT!

I have a Ross Canyon for trout fishing. Very nice reel but pricey.

The Big Game Saltwater Reel has problems with the saltwater getting into the drag. You must rinse the reel after each trip. It is a reel that requires high maintenance especially in the saltwater environment. Perhaps they'll address this issue sometime soon. FishHawk
