With Steelhead weather on us, I am wondering what everyone does for iced guides. The paste works for all of one cast...and I am thinking about making a heated rod! Seriously though. I love fishing in the winter but really hate iced guides.

but a friend who fishes hard for steelhead all winter carries a small can of Pam cooking spray with him that he sprays on the guides throughout the day.....

Pam for me too. Although it doesn't seem to last very long.

Interesting, I will definitely give it a try. Im wondering if a lithium battery built into the butt of a rod with heat tape running inside could keep the rod and guides over the freezing mark...then all one would need is a solar panel hat to keep it charged!...LOL:rolleyes:

Doesn't the Pam just encourage dirt to stick to your line?

Another thought, I'd try silicone lubricant too if that's available.

I have used the paste in the past. It works for about 5 casts and then the guides are iced again....
Im really starting to think I should try the battery and heat tape ;)
My wife tells me to wait until spring....but winter steelheading is where its at!

Ive heard of using lip baum. Not sure how effective it is but may be worth a try as its smaller than a bottle of Pam.:)

I spent a good amount of time on the water last winter. I tried lip balm,WD 40, Pam, and ice off paste. No matter what I used the ice kept coming back and no matter how much I tried of each type it was always the same.
