View Full Version : Must have new products!!

I was listening to a pod cast about the fly fishing retail show, and one company said they were coming out with a line of fly rods designed for fishing for native fish. I've always been interested in fishing for native fish, but none of my fly rods were designed with that in mind.

Another must have product was a little portable trash can that you carry with you so you can pick up a few bits of trash here and there. I don't know if it's Gore-tex or not, but in any case, my days of carrying a leftover Target shopping bag are over.

But, I was disappointed to hear that there are still some necessary products that have yet to be designed or produced. For example, although we have rods designed especially for largemouth bass, or native trout, or steelhead, none of these rods are designed to catch only the females. But as we know, if you really want a trophy fish, you should target the females.

And what am I supposed to do with my little portable trash can if I come across something that is recyclable? I don't want to leave it out there, so what's a guy to do?

I love fishing for native browns. Ummmm...wait a minute...dang! Nevermind.

I don't know where to begin? Do I join in the sarcasm? Okay, what the heck.
I like Walmart bags myself. If you really want to try the can thingy, you can have mine. I think it's the same thing I hang on the back of the passenger seat in my wifes car for her trash. And if my car can have heated side mirrors, how come someone can't invent heated stripping guides? Or little blow dryers for your flies that are wet. I use my sleeve but there must be a better tool for the job.

I covet that line of clothing that is guaranteed to repel insects, but modified for certain humans, with a dial that I can alternate depending my mood.

And I just KNOW you guys use stripping baskets because everyone else has one. Enough with the catwalk already!

I'm glad you (and others) picked up on the sarcasm. I started worrying later that maybe some would think I was serious. Well, I am serious about the products - they really do exist. I'm just not serious about needing them.

I mean, you can buy every rod weight and length combination imaginable, and yet somehow a rod designed to catch a stocked or introduced 8 inch fish is different from a rod for a native 8 inch fish?

And a portable, "all the latest styles" trash receptacle?

What's next?!

OK - here's a boredom beater:

1) Most ridiculous fly fishing product out there

and/or

2) Most ridiculous fly fishing product you can think of that you can actually imagine will someday be marketed

Any ideas?

the answer to your question may be to apply some hikarati to your flies. at bare minimum, if it does not attract female fish, it may attract female fishermen.

if we can talk about ridiculous fishing products in general, and not just for fly fishing, i would like to submit the bobber that has a fish finder built into it. instead of waiting to see if you get a hit, you can see if anyone is at home as soon as your rig hits the water. i am not sure how that makes bait fishing more fun. now a fish finder strike indicator, that might be something...

I think any new rod marked over $700 is at the top of my list. There is no need to spend that much money and the companies that sell them should be chase with burning sticks untill they can think up some more reasonable price markups. (With the exception of some old bamboo classics) then i understand

I am with you on the fish finder indicators i really hope you thought that one up and its not real:)

That Sage Bluegill rod is $400!!!!!! I understand that the Z-Axis gets wonderful reviews but who wears tweed and goes after panfish? Those guys need to be publically flogged for that pricetag. Now if it was made for perch...

A product that sounds rediculous that I would like to see is a pair of waders with a built in potty. (I hate having to leave a good spot to make that trek behind a tree.)

I'm sure it's much better than the loop/velcro already on most fishin' shirts and vests.... or just holding your rod under your arm

I knew you were gonna go there and I still said "No he didn't just go there!" I was thinking of something a bit more expensive with a Winston or Hardy label.

Back belts aren't great. They make you rely on the belt too much. Better off strengthening core muscles, especially the back.

Want to relieve the back pressure / pain - Dump the vest full of junk.
Couple spools of tippet a fly box or two, hemostats, nippers, net and go. Amazing, you'll still catch fish and your back won't hurt. :)

I am young but am also a chiropractic student (about to graduate) so I have read a lot of research on back support belts and it is not favorable.
