Hey everyone, so I started this addiction of a sport called fly fishing last year. Some of you even warned me that it was an addiction and before I knew it 1,2,3 or even 4 rods would never be enought. Well........
I think it is time for a new rod, haha.
The one that I bought last year is just fine and I plan on keeping it and using it for most of my fishing. I have found though that I enjoy fising in some small streams and rivers quite a bit, and I find my rod just to be too long probably too heavy.
Any recomendations for weight and length? Thanks everyone!

My favorites small stream rod is a slow action, 7 foot, four weight. It's long enough that "small" means it can handle action on larger pieces of water and the slow action allows for delicate casts into small spaces. Being a bit weaker in the backbone means it's not great for chucking wooley buggers but it handles small streamers like the Mickey Finn very well.
I also fish a 7' 4wt for small streams. Mine has a bit more backbone, which means I can cast streamers too, but it probably lacks the "feel" of a softer action rod. It's all a matter of preference, but something in the 6 to 7 foot range is ideal for most small stream/river conditions.
Tight lines! Small streams are HIGHLY addictive!

I bought a 7'6" Albright GP 4/5 weight just for that purpose and it is great. I have 4 weight line on it for dries and nymphing but put a 5 sink tip to throw streamers. I can throw a BH bugger with the 4 weight line, it not great but it works. For the other stuff it is great for small streams but I could use it on larger rivers too. For the price it can't be beat.

My favorite small stream rod is a 7' Scepter fiberglass rod built by forum member Andy Manchester. The Scepter handles lines from 3 to 6 weight (I use a 5 DT on it, and I like rods that are made for a range of lines) and it excels at roll and bow casting, two of the most useful casts for the small stream angler. I also have no problem throwing a streamer with a BB shot. PM Andy if you're interested.

Hi Joe,
I would check out the LL Bean in Orange....yesterday some one posted a 6'6" 3wt. I just called to find out its 69 dollars and is their stream light model. I feel this would be great size/wt for most small stream applications. Not sure if thats good of a rod or not but worth checking out maybe if youre trying to keep costs down.
Just my 2 cents.
