I am in the market for a canoe. It will be used only for floating slow rivers(ie Housatonic and Delaware). My buddy and I plan on fly fishing in it and using it for weekend trips. So it would need to hold a decent amount of gear but nothing crazy.

I've been looking for used ones but it seems people are either posting junk or are wanting a little less then retail for a very beat up canoe.

Any recommendations? What about size and width? Canoe weight is the least of my worries but I am taking it into consideration.

Right now I am looking at ones between 16-15 feet and as wide as possible for stability reasons while fishing. Looking to spend less then 1k

I bought a kayak last year and only ended taking it out 3 or 4 times. Its just so much easier to wade. It will be great in Squantz Pond this summer for bass though.

I bought one a few months ago. $200 on Craigslist.

However, I prefer to fish out of my pram since I can stand up and cast. Canoe is nice for two people, though.

Right now I am looking at ones between 16-15 feet and as wide as possible for stability reasons while fishing Looks to me like you know what you're looking for.
My canoe has a flat bottom and a 35" beam. That makes for a good boat for fishing and poling, but terrible for river running or tracking on open water.
All canoes are a trade-off, none are perfect for everything.

Initial stability and being able to cast while standing is what I like about mine. It's a little short for poling (13') but I like it
It's a 30 year old Lincoln

There's lots of used boats out there
If you're interested, I know someone in Middletown that has an aluminum canoe that they'd like to sell. Real cheap, I'm sure
