It's snowing hard as I write, but I just stumbled upon this vision of green and thought I'd share.

The fishing was crap that day. But a nice malt and the sound of the River Kirkaig flowing by wasn't a bad second.

Beautiful day, beautiful river. Care to share the name of the single malt? I'm always looking for new ones to try.

Cheers! It was probably Highland Park, one I like a great deal (never met one I didn't like, though I'm not massive on the deeply peaty ones).

You're the second person (the other was from the UK as well) to recommend Highland Park. I'll have to pick up a bottle.

Thanks for sharing such a great picture on a such a bleak day.

What I find especially poignant about the photo is that it appears he is drinking from a "real" glass. He's not slurping from some paper cup rescued from the detritus of the car's boot, but sipping, in a dignified manner from a real glass, one brought for the singular purpose -- as a gentleman should.

Of course, it's probably a plastic cup, but the story isn't quite as grand from that perspective.

How come you never dress like that when we fish together?

One does one's best! Yup, plastic cup for the purposes of drinking the water of life!

I'm going to get hammered for this, but when one fishes "gentlemen’s' water" for salmon, "dressing the part" often goes down well with the laird and/or ghillie (and can be the difference bewteen getting allocated a good pool and a duffer!) Shirt and tie is not out of place on a Scottish salmon river.

My Best Man sent me this from a few years' back. He entitled it "Highland Dandies" and no, we don't take our selves remotely seriously!! (For those that don't know me, I'm the pillock on the left).

You need to photoshop a Rolls Royce over that car.

I've been trying to tell my wife that I'm going to need a nice tweedy jacket, some breeks and broques for our next trip across the pond. She thinks I'll look silly. I think I'll fit in (in addition to looking silly)

Pork - it WAS a Volvo mate!

Am I the only one with silly pics? Come along now....

I have some embarassing long hair dorky glasses photos from the early-mid 70's, but they're all with fish on stringers. Back then we ate (almost) everything we caught.

Jon,

Do they still dress like this? Please, post more if you got them.

Imagine rolling up to Pulaski NY dressed like this.

Murph,

Sure, most ghillies still dress in tweeds. Many of the bigger estates have their own style of tweed. Long may it continue!

This is the Dee. The ghillie's garb is typical.

Many ghillies still dress just so...

I'd wear that! Not fishing, of course, but I like the look of that.

When I went stag hunting in Scotland, the ghillie was dressed just so as well. It was strange to be hunting with someone who's wearing a tie.
