View Full Version : What can we do about litter?

There was some discussion over on another forum about littering. I'm sure that many of you share my disgust with the trash we sometimes find on or in our precious streams.

If you are so inclined to do a good deed for the day, take a small bag with you on next time you're on the stream and fill it with the garbage, cans, and bottles you come across. No, it won't solve the problem of the morons who litter, but it will make it a cleaner place for the next person who comes by.

I always walk out of the woods w/ the back pocket of my vest full of garbage......We can't stop them from doing it if we don't see them, but we can keep it under some control if we take some garbage we didn't bring ourselves every time we go....

The HFFA and the FRAA both do river cleanups every year(as well as many other organizations)....my children, when they were smaller, participated in many HFFA cleanups as well as streambank erosion projects and the like. Maybe a partial answer is to have the clubs schedule multiple cleanups throughout the year???
Just a thought.....

I have walked out many nights with a plastic grocery bag full of garbage. They fit in small pocket.

Was out above Riverton Thurs night 7/20. Pulled over and walked down footpath to river to check out conditions. Found a pile of human feces and paper on the footpath next to river barely 15 feet from road. I was totally disgusted.
Worse yet, I had not realized that in the space of that 15 foot walk to the river, I had missed another "pile" and had inadvertently stepped in it on my way down wearing only a pair of deck shoes. I went wet wading immediately to wash it off. This completely ruined my mood this evening.
Who on earth is the complete cretin that could do such a STUPID and disgusting thing? That is quite literally a health hazard to everyone who contacts it.
I think I could literally hold this person underwater till the bubbles stopped if I caught them doing this on the stream. :x

 That's terrible!!!!!!.....Did you pick it up? You didn't leave it there for someone else to stumble on it did you? .....Just messin w/ you....Sort of comical, but definitely innapropriate & disgusting.......I've had to do that a few times, but I typically go deep in the woods & try to bury it afterwards......2 right next to the trail is a bit appalling......I like to hike when I fish, and I've been caught a mile or two away from my truck a few times, so I can understand sometimes it's unaviodable, but get away from the trail for Pete's sake.....

Don't these people understand that the "skinless, finless" strain of the brown trout are a "Put and Take" fishery? Maybe we need to start strategically placing copies of this book along the banks of the The Farmy.....http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0898156270/002-1557900-6959200?v=glance&n=283155

Too funny fishbag......I actually got a copy of that in my stocking as a gag gift from the wife & kids a few years ago....I read it in my tree stand during bow hunting season....All common sense, but w/ a few eye opening facts....The tree stand is the only place besides the crapper that I can achieve full repose, and since its about crapping outdoors, I didn't think reading it on my crapper at home did it much justice....
