He's got good taste: Chatham and McQuane have written some of my favorite fishing books, and I've read a ton of Jim Harrison, too.

I thought you might notice those references. I must confess I couldn't crack McQuane - I just didn't like his roller coaster style. But he clearly has huge respect out there.

It really gave me a better understanding of Gierach. Having read all his books I could find, I wouldn't have imagined him to be so scholarly.

i have to say that if i had a chance to spend a day fishing with anyone in the world, it would be gierach. his wisdom goes far beyond fly fishing.
