I just picked up a new 8'6" 4 weight. I already have a 7'9" 4 weight but this one was a great deal. Anyway,,, I put my 4 weight reel on my new rod and it seems a bit forward heavy. The balance point is approximately 3 inches forward of the cork handle, near the fly hook.

My questions are these;

1. Where is the optimal balance point on a fly rod ?
2. Is this balance point a individual thing or pretty standard?
3. How can I balance my rod without buying a new reel?

I was thinking of adding some light weight to the butt of the rod, I just have to think of something. If I remember correctly others use golf club metal tape.

Thanks in advance,

- Tom

:rolleyes:
PS
I find lead core trolling line used as backing most times enables me to get the balance just the way I prefer it.
