Does anybody use the Davy Knot, I won't go into its history, but I came across it the other day and tried it the other night. It's incredibly easy to tie and feels pretty strong. I've read it's been rated with a fairly high breaking strength. It makes tying 6x and 7x tippets on small hooks real easy with absolutely no stretching or kinking your tippet and very little knot on the hook eye. It lines up nice and straight with the eye and seems to work well with 2x down to 8x. It's also extremely hackle friendly and easy to get around parachutes and spinner wings.
Here's a tutorial on tying it if you've never seen it.

I'm curious to know if anyone uses and trust it and how well it works on larger diameter lines. How does in work with fluorocarbon? I've only tried in with mono.

I use the Davy knot 95% of the time for tieing fly to tippet.I find it very easy to tie and has excellent strength.
Here's a video I found showing a way to tie it.

no issues when tying it with fluorocarbon...I use it a lot.
I learned it from a heron who learned it from Davy...it is a really great knot especially when your hands are freezing...fast easy tie.

anyone used it in the salt with say a 20 lb mono tippet?

WOW, that looks real easy to tie. I've been using the trilene, but I may just try that.

Yeah the Davy knot works very well with floro I use 30# 20# and 15# Ande or Seaguar floro, or Invizx, no reason it shouldn't behave similarly with regular mono or better mono tippet materials. While the video link in this thread shows one way to tie the Davy they do overlook moistening/lubricating prior to tightening, I believe this is essential to get it to cinch up smoothly and tightly. I also would recommend putting some strong pressure on it when seating the knot - to make sure it locks down.
I've lost fish to carelessly tied Davy knots - I didn't cinch them down strongly - or cut the final tag end too close after tying (leave 1/8" to 1/4" - the knot will slip tighter once you put pressure on it), that's my fault for trusting it too much.. I got lax when tying the knot thinking it would fix itself on first pull.. but no
Awesome Davy Knot features:
-Straight alignment to hook shank/pull direction
-Extremely easy and fast to tie, even with cold fingers
-Near line test strength
-Small (though admittedly, awkward-looking) profile, advantage apparent when attaching smaller flies
-Can tie one-handed or two-handed
and last but not least
-very few if any other knots can be tied with such little line - I use about 1.5" of line to tie a Davy in 30#, less in others... try that with a Palomar, so it's a very economical knot to use with expensive tippet materials
