Just found this out a month ago..If you own a "pre" Hard Alox Litespeed "or" a ULA Force reel with a silver drag and red handle(they are the older ones) ,the chutch assembly has been replaced with a new stainless steel one.Old ones corrode. If you open the housing and there is no red in the clutch.you can contact Waterworks and they will send you new ones free of charge. My reels seemed fine but after examination...wow.I only knew something wasn't right when I had a tough time removing a spool. Here they are with along with the new clutch.Need any other info,PM me.WWhttp://www.flyaddict.com/gallery/data/504/thumbs/IMG_5092.jpg (http://www.flyaddict.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2282)

This is an old problem. Not all of mine have the new clutch. It depends on when they were made. I don't have any problems with mine because I open them up every few months and clean the clutch thoroughly. I also oil the clutch while I am at it. I might just get the new ones anyway since they are free.

When I asked the person at Waterworks if I should put any oil or anything in there, she freaked and said definitely not.For what it's worth.Although, I also have put a light film of oil on the spool shaft before.I had never heard anything about this before and I have a bunch of them.Litespeed's, ULA's and purist.Anyway,I just though I'd bring it up for those who may not know.By the way,I still wouldn't buy anything else.I love em.

I have used mountain bike chain lube on the shaft and the clutch for years with no problems.
