So, I've been tying some midge nymphs prepping for an outing when the temps get above freezing. Tired of the same old patterns I was inspired by a pattern in Gierach's book "Good Flies". I tied up a small midge pupa in both olive and black using goose biots.

Hook: TMC 2487 #18 and smaller (scud style hook)
Thread: Olive 8/0
Abdomen: Olive (or black) Goose Biot.
Thorax: Peacock Ice Dub

That looks like the real thing to me. I love fishing tiny midge pupa.

It makes me wonder how the Croton is fishing.............?

Adam -- I'm envisioning this one being tied to a double tungsten bead head, wire wrapped, stonefly. Cooked this one up after my 7 am conference call but before my 8:30 am call.

Nice simple fly... that's a good one to start off a day at the bench.
