My lovely bride announced this evening that it would be my burden to transport my son to Litchfield for the next several Saturdays for a class. Because it takes me 45 minutes to get there it would be shear folly to return home only to have to drive back two hours later.

What to do for those three hours while waiting for my son? What to do?

Mayhap there is a stream, river, or other band of flowing water in the vicinity in which the wiley Brown Trout or Brook Trout swims freely.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the Litchfield area to wet a line?

You are less than 1/2 hour away from the Hous when you're in Litchfield.
You also have the Bantam River right in Litchfield...you can access it off of Rt 63 about 1 mile or so south of the center of town.
Good luck fishing,

You have the Shepaug River, Bantam River. Ther Bantam has a Fly-fishing only section also. The book, "Trout Streams of Southern New England" gives some good information about streams in the area.

Fly,

The Bantam has a Fly-fishing only section also.

I was going to try and find that section yesterday but we ran out of time. A former FF guy told me the land that you need to use to get to it is all marked private now but he's been wrong before. But maybe Sat I'll take a ride and see for myself. I've seen several other sections and the water is nice.

Also the Shepaug had a FF only section down in the Steep Rock area...but wasnt that for club use only? The book "Trout Pool Paradox" talks about the fight over that river and water flows. Wife loves that area so like to get down there and try that too.

He's wrong. What was the lower section of the FF only area is now posted, but the upper part is still accessible from W Morris Rd. The water above the bridge is open to all fishing, below the bridge is FF only. There is some nice water in both directions.

I believe thats the bridge we were on a few weeks ago...I didnt think that was the FF area though but sounds right if I remember what the state book said. Not that it matters if its FF only...just wondering if you could still get in there. Thanks Jeff!

Thanks to all for the good discussion and the PMs. I've now got plenty of options.
