Coming up from NYC where should I go?

I live in NYC but I just love connecticut, the scenery the people etc...
Anyway I went last week to the Housatonic...fished the "push 'em up" hole. Anyone have any suggestions of places to go that are as close or closer to NYC than the Housatonic....
I am not that familiar with the area so some details would be appreciated.

If you're after trout you made the best choice IMO. Although you didn't necessarily have to drive all the way to push'em for good fishing. That is one of the farthest upstream holes in the cornwall TMA. There is another TMA south of Kent along route 7 that you could also fish. It's probably about 20-30 minutes closer than going to push'em up.

Aside from that you can always drive to the catskills. I won't ever be able to do it justice so I won't even get into how many rivers you could fish out that way.
