I'm a fly fishing book fanatic! Recent read, River of Dreams, by Lani Waller, is terrific. Very enjoyable short story collection. Even my non-fishing wife (and self-appointed literary critic) loved it. Add it to your library!

I plan on adding a book section to www.flyaddict.com, and will make note of it.

Thx sbalsen

I look forward to the book section. My vote for the best how-to fly fishing book is Gary Borger's Presentation.

I would love to have someone who can write some short reviews on books if you are interested.

Book review section is a great idea. Picked up Gary LaFontaine's Caddisflies @ UpCountry (Grady said it's a must own) this week. He is absolutely right!!!! Incredible!!!!!

:D I taught both of my daughters at a young age to Fly Fish, they are now 15 and 17 and continue to love the sport. The book I used was Fly Fishing with Children by Philip Brunquell M.D. It was a great read and a great resource.

I have a deilema!

I am 28 been fishing my whole life. My dad owned a small tackle shop for a few years and i worked there and learned a whole bunch. I however just recently (last august) started fly fishing. I have been fairly succsessful and i know i have so much to learn, however i have a decent BASIC knowledge base.

I need a book that will give me good info that isn't too technical but isn't all basics.

Any suggestions?

That's a tough one cause I really can't tell where you are on the learning curve. Fly fishing can be very overwhelming. Best to match the complexity to your personality. Some people like all the minutiae. I still think Gary Borger's Presentation is the best how to book out there, but it does have lots of information. Taylor Streit' Instinctive Fly Fishing is fun to read and has lots of useful tips.

The best advice is don't let yourself get overwhelmed. It's not about catching the most number of fish, at least for me. I used to carry a million flies. Now I carry a basic nymph, emerger and dun in the likely hatches, usually parachutes and a CDC comparadun (plus a box of Caddis flies or terrestrials if needed). It keeps the tying simple, the fly boxes fewer and the weight of my vest less. I concentrate on enjoying the experience and catch plenty of fish, if not the most (though sometimes I do!). I have a high stress job and look forward to my days on the river to relax!
