I'm looking for a streamer rod mostly for chucking bigger streamers for trout and bass (articulated Strolis-style streamers, poppers, etc).
I know rod weight really depends on the make and model, so...
Go to the closest REI and check out their sale racks. There are almost always past-season jackets similar to the Patagonia Shook mentioned above for 20-40% off.
I wear the Marmot PreCip, it's...
If you're in bright sun and low clear water I'd go with no bead head but possibly flash in the fly (like a flashback PT). I think the flashback has been less subtle than a bead but enough to attract...
Is this a good thing... Or a bad thing... ?
Not sure if I'll be taking a Coke out with me every time I'm fishing, but this is awesome

I'm not too familiar with venues in the area, but will post if I find one. I will, however, advocate for the later dates when more college students will be done with exams ;]
... Just realized...
brookie61- the source of the info you posted on the first page. If I use it in a letter I want to be able to cite the source
I'm the kind of guy who'd spend $400 a year to fish. Or more if need be. I know that won't happen, but I feel like there are plenty of people willing to pay more for fishing licenses. It looks as if...
I can't believe I've never heard of this...
I agree with pork, there are plenty of crayfish in most of the rivers I fish and the trout must love em. I use them as searching patterns. I haven't tried a clouser for trout yet though
Wooly Buggers of all varieties, Mickey Finn, an orange/brownish crayfish pattern, and any Rich Strolis streamer
WoodRiver, very true. This trip will be just my dad and I. I'm still looking but Libby Camps in Ashland, ME might be an option.
If we end up going w/freshwater the trip will probably be planned for...
My mom and I are looking to plan a fishing trip for my dad and me for Father's Day. We'd like the trip to be driveable, but travel by plane is not out of the question. The trip also should be spin...
Matt, I thought the same thing. I just got their catalog and saw a heading on the Helios page saying something like "your last chance to by the fly rod of a generation". What did I think? Sale! But...
That's one beefy landlocked, welcome! I've learned a lot from this site and I'm sure you will too.
Gary put it perfectly, I feel sick. It's a feeling that just won't go away, that lingers inside after a tragedy like this, whether you are directly affected or not. I have many good friends in...
I open up my fly boxes after a day's use to let any moisture dry out. I also have a box to put wet streamers in after I use them so they don't get any other box wet.
I'll be in Alaska this summer, unfortunately not to fish, but I've been obsessed with AK lately nonetheless...
If you have the time, this is an awesome video.

Thought some of you would be interested, there are so many other examples around the world like this one that we don't even know exist.

Stan, I have a headlight that I use while camping and more recently for fishing and I totally understand. When on the river in the dark the light is either off or on the lowest setting only when I...
Thanks for the input steve, I think I'm going to take a look at it in person at upcountry soon and see what I think in comparison to a few others
hmm I've never heard of them, do you have any of their reels?
Grady's great, I've gotten advice from him before and it really helped me out
I need to upgrade my trout reel asap. If you have suggestions, I'm interested!
Let me know what you use, why you like it, whether you've had to use customer service and how it went, weight, arbor,...
